The role
About O'Neill Foley
O'Neill Foley is one of Ireland's leading independent accountancy and advisory firms. From our base in Kilkenny we have advised family businesses, owner-managed companies and professionals across Ireland for more than sixty years. Many of the businesses we act for today are run by the children, and in some cases the grandchildren, of the founders we first met.
We continue to grow steadily across audit, accounts, tax, corporate finance and wealth management. That growth is built on a strong client base, a reputation for technical quality, and a culture that takes the work seriously and itself a little less so.
The opportunity
We are looking for an Audit and Accounts Manager to join the firm at a time of sustained client growth. The role has been created to strengthen the leadership capacity within the department and reflects our continued investment in the team.
This is a broad role for an experienced practice professional who takes pride in technical quality and in building lasting client relationships. You will manage a varied portfolio of audit and accounts assignments, lead and mentor more junior team members, and work closely with the partners on client strategy and firm development.
There is genuine scope for progression for someone who brings ambition, judgement and a collaborative approach.
Key responsibilities
Lead the planning, execution and completion of audit and accounts assignments across a varied portfolio of clients, including family businesses, owner-managed companies and not-for-profit organisations.
Act as a senior point of contact for clients, providing clear, commercially sound advice on accounting, audit and financial reporting matters.
Review work prepared by trainee and qualified staff to a high technical standard.
Manage budgets, timelines and recoverability across assignments.
Support the partners in developing the firm's audit and accounts offering and identifying opportunities within the existing client base.
Guide, mentor and support team members, helping them to grow both technically and professionally.
Contribute to the firm's wider development through cross-departmental collaboration and involvement in business development activity where appropriate.
Represent O'Neill Foley in professional and business forums as appropriate.
Skills and experience
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience in an Irish practice environment.
Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting standards and current auditing standards.
Experience leading audit and accounts assignments end to end for a portfolio of owner-managed clients.
Proven ability to manage, mentor and develop a team.
Confidence in dealing directly with clients, including business owners and senior management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Commercial awareness and the judgement to balance technical and practical considerations.
A collaborative approach and an interest in the firm beyond your own assignments.
What we offer
A varied portfolio of clients, with real responsibility from day one.
Direct partner access and a flat, collegial structure.
Genuine career progression in a firm that is growing.
Flexible hours by agreement and a working environment built around trust.
Investment in your continuing professional development.
A long-established Kilkenny office in the Brewhouse, Abbey Quarter, with a team that has been here a long time and intends to stay.
Who you are
You will be a confident practice professional who enjoys the variety of an owner-managed client base and the responsibility that comes with leading assignments. You will bring sound technical judgement, a collaborative leadership style, and the willingness to contribute beyond your own portfolio. You will be comfortable in client conversations, in the room with partners, and on the floor with the trainees you are bringing on.
How to apply
Please send your CV and a short note outlining your experience and interest in the role to careers@onf.ie. All applications will be treated in confidence.
