The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in UK's & Ireland's Building Services sector. Alternative Heat design, develop and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative, and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Europe.
What We Do:
We specialise in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of prefabricated energy solutions, typically built in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Europe. We also offer turnkey design, build, and operate solutions for commercial energy centres and large-scale district heating solutions and have experience with successfully procuring and delivering many similar packages to a wide range of public bodies throughout UK & Europe.
Team Overview:
The Design department is responsible for developing innovative, practical, and fully coordinated mechanical and electrical building services solutions tailored to each project. Working closely with clients, project teams, and the BIM department, the design team transforms concepts into detailed, build-ready technical designs that meet regulatory standards, client specifications, and sustainability goals. Their work underpins the technical accuracy and efficiency of our installations, ensuring seamless integration from planning through to construction.
Role Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality design solutions for modular chilled water pipework systems and turnkey plantroom packages.
What You'll be Doing:
* Designing and developing chilled water pipework systems for data centre cooling, incorporating modular skid-based construction for offsite fabrication.
* Engineering turnkey prefabricated plantroom solutions, including chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, buffer vessels, and MEP infrastructure.
* Conducting thermal & hydraulic load analysis to ensure optimal system sizing and efficiency.
* Performing pre-site feasibility assessments and site surveys for seamless integration of modular solutions.
* Preparing detailed mechanical system designs, including flow, pressure loss, and expansion calculations.
* Developing mechanical schematics, layout drawings, and fabrication drawings for offsite assembly.
* Coordinating with electrical and BMS teams for seamless integration of power distribution and automation systems.
* Ensuring full BIM coordination for clash-free, fully coordinated project execution.
* Collaborating with structural, architectural, and MEP consultants to optimize space, weight, and access requirements.
* Selecting high-performance MEP equipment, balancing technical excellence with cost-effectiveness.
* Preparing technical submittals and liaising with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors for design validation and approval.
* Overseeing fabrication and commissioning strategies, ensuring compliance with ASHRAE, EN 50600, CIBSE, and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.
* Staying updated on industry advancements, including modular construction and offsite fabrication techniques
* Attending project coordination meetings to provide technical input and design updates.
