Job Title: Staff Nurse- Medically Supervised Injecting Facility (MSIF)Responsible for:Work as part of a multi-discipinlary team providing high quality trauma informed care to people to access the MSIFReports to:Clinical Nurse Manager- MSIFPlace of work:Riverbank House, Merchants Quay Dublin 8Objective: To support clients who inject drugs to ensure that they can do so safely and reduce harm.Merchants Quay Ireland (MQI) opened Ireland's first Medically Supervised Injection Facility (MSIF) in December 2024. An MSIF is a hygienic, safe, medically supervised healthcare environment where people can inject drugs, obtained elsewhere, under the supervision of trained health professionals. It offers a compassionate, person-centred service which reduces the harms associated with drug injecting.As a Registered Nurse, you will work predominantly in the MSIF clinical area, supervising clients before, during and after episodes of injecting. Core activities include client engagement; health assessment & education; management of health emergencies, brief interventions, primary care support.Main ResponsibilitiesOptimise health and welfare by promoting harm reduction and reducing the negative effects associated with drug use for people who use drugs.Operating in a trauma informed manner to uphold and promote the dignity of all people who use our service, developing a positive rapport with clientsFoster social inclusion and client participation in the operation of MSIFClinicalClinical observation and monitoring of client wellbeing throughout their visit to MSIF including reception, injection room and aftercare area.Follow the Clinical Nurse Manager's direction and assist as required during client emergencies.Effectively intervene in the event of drug overdose in line with clinical best practice and MQI procedures involving the administration of oxygen or naloxone as required.Engage with emergency services as required to successfully manage clinical incidents in the serviceProvide primary nursing healthcare services to clients as required including wound care.Provide nursing support to the MSIF Primary care Doctor as required.Promote practices that prevent client overdoses, reduce harm for clients and provide training and guidance around safer injecting practices, vein care and infection control and needle exchangeCollaboration and TeamworkWork in partnership with colleagues and managers across all services in Riverbank to achieve better outcomes for our clients.Work with colleagues, peers and others to foster and maintain a trauma informed approach to service deliverySupport clients to identify health and welfare and needs and building positive links with relevant external health and welfare services.Build positive relationships with clients and peer representatives, working to promote client voice, choice and empowermentWork always to foster a safe therapeutic environment for staff, clients and visitorsRecord KeepingEnsure compliance with all relevant quality management systems and processes.Participate in clinical quality improvement and research activitiesRecord all client observations and/or interactions on the relevant MSIF forms, and MSIF clinical database.Complete incident reports and health and safety logs in a timely mannerThe above job description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties involved and consequently, the post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post.Person SpecificationThe Ideal Candidate For This Post MustBe registered in the Relevant Division of the Register of Nurses kept by The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or be entitled to be so registered.Third Level Nursing qualificationMinimum 2 years post qualification experienceMinimum 1 year experience working in a low threshold environmentAn understanding of the complex issues relating to substance misuse and mental health and the delivery of trauma informed servicesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to build positive relationships with a diverse range stakeholders including people with lived and living experience of drug useAn understanding of the principles and practice of Trauma Informed service deliveryStrong passion for MQI's mission and visionIT skills, including MS packages - particularly Excel, and an appreciation for data analysis via CRM systemsThe working hours for this position are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Sunday. These hours will be worked between the hours of 8.00am – 8.00pm with a requirement to be available outside of these hours subject to Service demands.
