At Modutech Switchgear Ltd, we specialise in intelligent LV switchgear tailored for mission-critical applications in industries ranging from data centers to biopharma, commercial and industrial facilities.
To support our continued expansion, we are looking for first year apprentices to join our team to support our growth and train our next generation of electrical switchgear apprentices.
An electrical switchgear apprentice job description involves assisting with the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical switchgear and control systems under the guidance of senior electricians. Key duties include reading technical drawings, wiring panels, performing quality control and fault finding, and handling materials and tools to support a qualified electrician in a variety of settings, from workshops to industrial sites. Responsibilities and duties
* Assist senior electricians: Perform basic electrical tasks, handle tools, and follow instructions from foremen or managers.
* Assembly and installation: Help with the hands-on assembly of electrical panels, distribution boards, and motor control panels.
* Reading technical documents: Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals to understand system designs and requirements.
* Testing and troubleshooting: Assist in testing systems for functionality and compliance, and help with fault finding and repairs.
* Maintenance: Learn to perform preventive maintenance on equipment, such as cleaning and checking for defects.
* Material and inventory management: Take inventory of parts, manage stock, and prepare work areas.
* Safety and compliance: Adhere to WHS practices, safety codes, and building regulations to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Required skills and qualifications
* Ability to interpret and follow technical drawings.
* Manual dexterity and the ability to use hand and power tools.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
* Physical fitness to lift and carry materials and work in various environments.
* Commitment to safety procedures.
* Previous experience in mechanical, metalwork or electrical wiring is an advantage but not always a prerequisite.
