Role Overview Our client is recruiting a Consultant ENT Surgeon on a temporary contract.
The candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality, specialist care in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of disorders of the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck.
The role combines clinical care, leadership, teaching, and service development within the HSE.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Duties Diagnose and treat ENT conditions (e.g., hearing loss, sinus disease, head neck cancers) Perform elective and emergency ENT surgeries Manage outpatient clinics and inpatient care Participate in on-call rota for ENT emergencies Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs)
2. Surgical Responsibilities Conduct procedures such as: Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy Septoplasty and sinus surgery Microlaryngoscopy Head neck oncological surgery Ensure adherence to best surgical practices and patient safety standards
3. Leadership Management Lead and support ENT service delivery within the hospital Supervise NCHDs (Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors) Participate in clinical governance and audit activities Contribute to service planning and improvement initiatives
4. Teaching Training Provide teaching and mentorship to junior doctors and medical students Support training aligned with Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland standards Engage in continuing professional development (CPD)
5. Research Audit Participate in clinical research and quality improvement projects Conduct audits to ensure compliance with national standards Contribute to evidence-based practice Qualifications Requirements Registration as a specialist in Otolaryngology with the Irish Medical Council Completion of higher specialist training in ENT (or equivalent) Fellowship (e.g., FRCSI or equivalent) desirable Demonstrated experience in ENT surgery and patient management Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills Skills Competencies Clinical expertise in ENT and head neck surgery Decision-making in complex cases Commitment to patient-centered care Ability to work in high-pressure environments Teaching and mentoring capability
