The Kitchen Assistant supports the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen by assisting chef with basic food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and ensuring that kitchen equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and stored. This role is essential in keeping the kitchen organized and ensuring that dishes are prepared and served on time.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist chefs with basic food preparation e.g., peeling, chopping, washing ingredients.
* Keep all work areas, utensils, and equipment clean and sanitized.
* Load and unload dishwashers, or wash dishes by hand when required.
* Receive and store deliveries of food and kitchen supplies.
* Maintain proper food storage and labelling in accordance with food safety standards.
* Dispose of kitchen waste safely and efficiently.
* Help set up and clean down kitchen stations before and after service.
* Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures.
* Support the kitchen team during busy service times.
* Perform any other duties as directed by the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager.
Requirements:
* Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment (preferred but not required).
* Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment.
* Good teamwork and communication skills.
* Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods.
* Flexibility to work weekends and holidays if required.
* Must have appropriate visa to work full hours (if applicable)
Desirable Qualifications:
* Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.
* Experience using commercial kitchen equipment.
Working Conditions:
* Fast-paced kitchen environment.
* May involve lifting heavy items and standing for extended periods.
* Work hours may vary based on service needs
