About The Team And The Role
eBay’s Global Indirect Tax team sits within a dynamic EMEA VAT function based in Dublin, supporting compliant and scalable growth across the marketplace. The team partners closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal to ensure VAT requirements are embedded into systems and business models as regulations evolve across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
This role, Indirect Tax Manager – EMEA VAT, focuses on VAT strategy, compliance, technology enablement, and risk management. It plays a key role in translating regulatory requirements into scalable solutions, supporting cross-border trade, and strengthening VAT governance. The position reports within the EMEA Indirect Tax team and contributes to global tax initiatives.
What You Will Accomplish
Enable VAT compliance across EMEA by overseeing multi-jurisdictional requirements, including EU VAT Directive, UK VAT, OSS/IOSS, and deemed supplier rules
Improve accuracy and scalability of VAT processes by partnering with Product and Engineering to enhance tax determination, reporting, and data integrity
Translate complex VAT regulations into system logic and business requirements to support platform and tax engine enhancements
Lead VAT compliance activities, including filings, coordination with shared services and advisors, and continuous process improvements
Manage VAT audits and tax authority interactions, developing strategies to support timely and effective resolution
Monitor legislative changes and implement required updates across systems and business processes
Provide clear VAT guidance and training to cross-functional teams, supporting business initiatives, expansions, and governance frameworks
What You Will Bring
Experience managing VAT across EMEA, with strong knowledge of EU and UK VAT rules, cross-border trade, and digital compliance requirements
Ability to apply VAT expertise within technology environments, including tax engines, ERP systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA), and automation tools
Experience translating regulatory requirements into operational processes or system solutions
Strong collaboration skills with experience working across Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal teams
Proven experience managing VAT audits and engaging with tax authorities
Analytical and research skills to assess legislative changes and business impact
Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain complex VAT concepts to diverse audiences
Additional Requirements
7–8 years of indirect tax experience, focused on VAT within EMEA
Background in public accounting and/or a multinational organisation
Degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, Legal, Information Systems, or related field; professional qualification preferred
Fluency in English; additional European languages are beneficial
Experience with data analytics or AI-enabled tools is a plus
Ability to work in a hybrid model from eBay’s Dublin office and collaborate across time zones
