The Director of Nursing is a key member of the Executive management team. The role holder will demonstrate strong leadership and collaborative skills engaging with colleagues across the hospital in the delivery of safe, high quality patient‑centred services. The development and promotion of a culture of person‑centred care at all levels in the organisation to advance the implementation of patient‑centred goals into Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic is a fundamental aspect of this role. The position requires a strategic and innovative approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the change leadership necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver patient and nursing services efficiently with a focus on quality, patient experience, performance management and productivity.
Act as a member of the Executive team with corporate governance responsibilities.
Promote a culture of person‑centred care and integrate patient‑centred goals into strategic plans.
Lead business continuity and emergency planning.
Engage with service delivery functions to set and meet financial and activity targets for current and future years.
Recommend organisational changes to the CEO as required.
Embed a performance‑management culture across the hospital.
Oversee effective information analysis to support strategic decision making.
Lead transformational change across boundaries, delivering management programmes to enhance services.
Manage the budget portfolio for relevant functions.
Engage clinicians in evolving clinical services to achieve best patient outcomes.
Provide management and leadership to reporting managers and teams, fostering learning.
Create an environment that promotes best practice, staff retention, and positive industrial/employee relations.
Support teams through annual reviews and personal development plans.
Align service delivery models with international best practice; ensure commercial viability, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
Foster a culture of accountability and professional autonomy among staff.
Ensure compliance with HR systems and policies.
Collaborate with executive colleagues on succession planning and talent management.
Pursue ongoing professional development and evidence‑based practice.
Provide learning and development opportunities for staff, involving specialists, based on training needs assessments.
Lead development and compliance with clinic guidelines, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Foster a safety culture and continuous policy review via audits.
Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives and innovation.
Set and monitor core objectives, standards, KPIs with nursing leads, track performance through audits.
Provide nursing leadership in addressing ethical and quality issues with multidisciplinary teams and management.
Essential Criteria – Knowledge / Experience
Registered in the general division of the Register of Nurses maintained by NMB.
Master’s level education in either Healthcare or Business.
Minimum five years of senior management experience in a similar environment.
Extensive experience leading successful change in a patient‑centred care delivery environment.
Experience delivering high levels of productivity and efficiency.
Demonstrated understanding of financial management and control.
Extensive knowledge of organisational management and development.
Track record of positive team engagement.
