Asiera, on behalf of Sonraí Irish Data Stewardship Network, is pleased to offer one (1) internship position to a student of UCD School of Information & Communication Studies IS***** Service Learning module.

In Asiera, we are building an end-to-end digital ecosystem for Irish education, one that connects, enables, and empowers learners and institutions to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
What the intern does
The internship will run during May/June **** and will involve at least 125 hours of student work.
Exact weeks and dates will be agreed with the student before work commences.
Internships can be hybrid or fully remote, depending on what suits the student.
You should additionally be able to demonstrate your ability to work independently.
Please note you will need to provide your own laptop for the duration of the internship.
As part of your internship, you will complete one or both of the following projects:
Horizon Scan / Literature Review in Data Stewardship
Review emerging standards, competencies, technologies and policy developments in data stewardship across Europe and internationally.
Outputs may include a summary report, thematic analysis and recommendations that inform Sonraí's future programming, training, and advocacy.
Compilation of Job Descriptions for Data Stewardship Roles
Collect, compare, and categorise data stewardship job descriptions across European research institutions.
Deliverables may include a dataset of job descriptions, role taxonomy and insights into required skills, responsibilities and gaps in workforce development.

Skills and Competencies for Data Stewards
Ethical and Legal Dimensions of Data Stewardship
Automation and AI in Data Stewardship
As part of the internship, your first task will be to complete a Project Plan based on your interest in data stewardship and your individual skills and to complete a Data Management Plan, both to be agreed with our Research Engagement Officer here in Asiera.

Data Collection and Categorisation: Create structured datasets suitable for further workforce or policy analysis.
Understanding of Data Stewardship Frameworks: Demonstrate knowledge of FAIR, CARE and other emerging standards, frameworks and competency models used in data stewardship.
Awareness of Ethical and Legal Issues: Identify key ethical, legal, and social considerations relevant to data stewardship, including privacy, consent, and responsible data governance.
Insight into Technology Trends: Assess both opportunities and risks associated with adopting new technologies in research data management.
Communication and Reporting: Produce clear, well structured written outputs such as reports, datasets, summaries, and recommendations for Sonraí's future work.
Professional and Sector Awareness: Develop an understanding of the data stewardship profession, including career pathways, required competencies, and institutional expectations.
