Field Sales Representative, Construction
Location: Newtown
We are looking for an experienced and driven Sales Representative to grow sales and build strong relationships with trade customers in the local and regional area. This is a field-based role where you will work closely with builders, contractors, and developers, helping them source the right products while identifying new business opportunities.
You will report directly to the Group Sales Manager and play an important role in driving revenue and delivering excellent customer service.
What You'll Be Doing
Customer Relationships
1. Build and maintain strong relationships with existing trade customers
2. Act as the main point of contact for customer queries, orders, and account support
3. Carry out regular face-to-face visits to strengthen long-term relationships
New Business Development
4. Identify and approach potential new customers within your territory
5. Attend trade events, supplier days, and industry events
6. Follow up on leads from the branch, suppliers, and marketing activity
Sales & Growth
7. Achieve or exceed agreed sales targets and margin goals
8. Promote the full range of products and services available
9. Upsell and cross-sell complementary products where appropriate
Product Knowledge & Advice
10. Develop strong knowledge of building materials and their applications
11. Provide practical product advice or source technical information when needed
12. Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and new products
Working with Internal Teams
13. Collaborate with internal sales, yard, and delivery teams to ensure smooth order fulfilment
14. Share customer feedback to help improve service and product offering
15. Coordinate pricing and stock availability with branch management
Reporting & Administration
16. Keep customer records and activity updated in the CRM system
17. Track quotes and follow up to maximise conversion
18. Provide regular sales and activity updates
Credit Awareness
19. Monitor customer accounts and support adherence to agreed payment terms
What We're Looking For
Required
20. Proven experience in external sales, ideally within construction or a builders' merchant
21. Strong communication and relationship-building skills
22. Confident negotiation and closing ability
23. Self-motivated with good time management skills
24. Full, clean driving licence
Preferred
25. Knowledge of building materials and their uses
26. Experience using CRM systems
27. Familiarity with local and regional trade customers
