Job Title: Senior Speech and Language Therapist – Acute Hospital Setting
Location: Kildare Hours: 35 hours per week (Full-time) Contract: 6 -12 contract
Purpose
To provide speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adult inpatients with complex communication and swallowing disorders in an acute hospital setting, contributing to patient outcomes and service development.
About the Department
The Speech and Language Therapy department delivers a high-quality, evidence-based service to adults across all acute care areas including stroke, age-related care, critical care, respiratory, general medicine, and surgery. The department provides consistent videofluoroscopy and FEES services and places a strong emphasis on supervision, mentorship, and continuous professional development.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive assessments and provide therapy for patients with communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing difficulties.
* Manage a senior caseload including stroke, neurological conditions, progressive disease, and acutely ill elderly patients
* Deliver specialist dysphagia interventions using evidence-based best practice.
* Work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure holistic patient care.
* Provide training and education for hospital staff, patients, and families.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical records; contribute to audits, research, and service improvement projects.
* Participate in supervision and ongoing CPD.
