Clinical Midwife Manager 2 - Shift Leader
Location of Post: Maternity Services, Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise
There are currently two permanent, whole‑time Clinical Midwife Manager 2 – Shift Leader vacancies available in the Maternity Department in the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.
Purpose of the Post
The post of the Clinical Midwife Manager 2 – Shift Leader has a pivotal role in service planning, coordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitation communication and professional/clinical leadership.
Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and / or Experience
Statutory Registration and Professional Qualifications
On the closing date for the competition, applicants must be registered in the Midwives Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or entitled to be registered.
Have at least five years post‑registration experience (or an aggregate of five years full‑time post‑registration experience), of which at least two years must be in the speciality or related area of Midwifery.
Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
Demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity.
Maintain annual registration on the Midwives Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives and confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Be in a state of health sufficient to render regular and efficient service, and be of good character.
Post Specific Requirements
In-depth knowledge of the Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS), Management of Obstetric Emergencies, Cardiotocography (CTG) interpretation, perineal suturing and breastfeeding.
Knowledge of HSE National Standards for Bereavement Care following pregnancy loss and perinatal death.
Depth and breadth of experience in nursing/midwifery management relevant to the role.
