A major European energy infrastructure platform is looking to appoint a Senior Commercial Manager to support the management and optimisation of its existing energy asset portfolio across the Irish and UK power markets.
This is a high-impact role that sits at the intersection of financial analysis, operational optimisation, commercial /portfolio performance and strategic project management, working closely with finance, trading, operational, and leadership teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying opportunities to improve profitability, managing commercial and operational risks, and ensuring the organisation is well positioned within rapidly evolving energy markets.
This role is viewed as a succession hire, offering a clear path to a commercial finance director position over time. Initially, the role does not include direct reports, though there are plans to hire an analyst reporting into this position.
Key Responsibilities
Analyse the financial and operational performance of existing energy assets, identifying opportunities to enhance profitability and efficiency.
Lead cross-functional projects aimed at improving portfolio performance and business processes.
Manage and monitor commercial risks, including market exposure and hedging alignment.
Provide high-quality KPIs and reporting to support decision-making on portfolio strategy, budgeting, and forecasting.
Support evaluation of investment opportunities and capital deployment decisions, ensuring commercial viability and risk mitigation.
Contribute to negotiation and management of commercial and operational contracts.
Assess the impact of regulatory developments on asset performance and provide strategic recommendations.
Deliver economic and financial analysis to inform operational, procurement, and investment decisions.
Collaborate with multiple internal teams to identify new commercial opportunities and process improvements.
Skills and Experience Required
Experience in energy markets, particularly power markets; familiarity with CCGT, OCGT, Biomass, or BESS assets is advantageous.
Strong commercial acumen with analytical depth and the ability to operate effectively across complex, matrixed environments.
Background in financial analysis, commercial evaluation, portoflio optimisation, investment appraisal, and/or contract management.
Experience managing multiple initiatives or projects simultaneously.
Strong financial modelling skills and ability to interpret complex datasets.
Exposure to regulatory impact analysis and commercial risk management.
Ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional projects effectively.
Additional Information
Hybrid working arrangement: 3 days per week on site in Dublin.
