Job Description:

The Eye Care Specialist will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients with eye conditions, including orthoptic assessments and treatments. They will operate within the Scope of Practice of the British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

* Clinical duties: Perform all clinical duties in accordance with directives issued, maintain professional standards, and adhere to relevant legislation and regulations.
* Caseload management: Carry a caseload and be responsible for the organization of their own workload in line with agreed priorities, policies, and procedures.
* Referrals and assessments: Accept Orthoptic referrals as per local policy, conduct Orthoptic assessments and treatments for children and adults, and aid in the assessment of inpatients referred to the Ophthalmic Service.
* Supervision and direction: Carry out supervision and direction of Amblyopia therapy and instruct patients/parents/guardians on a continuous course of home treatment.
* Visual field examinations: Conduct visual field examinations when requested and participate in digital imaging/clinical photography and other automated ophthalmic investigations.
* Ophthalmic investigations: Provide any additional ophthalmic investigations, including Visual Field Testing, Ophthalmic Imaging, and Interpretation of results.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be eligible for this role, applicants must have a B.Sc (Hons) Orthoptics or equivalent qualification and at least 3 years full-time post-qualification clinical experience. They must also possess a high standard of suitability and management ability for the proper discharge of the duties attached to the office.
