Senior Utilities Engineer – Ireland Roads team, based in Dublin, Naas or Limerick.
A Little More About Your Role…
The Ireland Roads team is seeking a Senior Utilities Engineer with extensive postgraduate experience in a civil engineering project environment. You will lead and manage the Utility Enabling Works design interfaces to ensure all external and internal designs are completed to the required quality on major national roads, public transport projects, rail and active travel schemes including the N/M20 Cork to Limerick Road Improvement Scheme, Dublin Metrolink, and projects for the National Transport Authority and Local Authorities.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and oversee the preparation of design and contract documentation, including drawings and specifications from design consultants and in-house design teams for review, approval and issue to various utility companies.
Lead interfaces with individual utility companies to secure agreements in accordance with the project programme.
Plan and coordinate design and construction interfaces of the utility works with other design elements and team members.
Participate in tender evaluation, contract negotiations, and award of utility and enabling works packages.
Ensure all Utilities Enabling Works design meets Health, Safety and Environmental obligations of relevant statutory Codes and Laws.
Maintain a design risk register and participate in risk workshops.
Manage all external interfaces – Local Authorities, Government agencies, property owners.
Manage and coordinate relevant external third‑party contracts where appropriate.
Provide technical input to cross‑sector multidisciplinary internal project teams supporting the delivery of transportation, commercial/residential development and environmental infrastructure projects.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Degree qualified in civil engineering or another appropriate subject and membership of an appropriate professional institution.
Prior experience of successful stakeholder management.
Experience in Utility Works contracts.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong understanding of CDE principles and delivery workflows (information containers, metadata, naming conventions, status/suitability, review/approval, audit trails, handover).
Experience with coordination and review practices (federation, issue/clash management, model checks and reporting).
Ability to manage work requirements in a dynamic environment and meet tight timescales.
Working knowledge of common design and coordination platforms (Autodesk Civil 3D/AutoCAD, Navisworks, ACC; Bentley OpenRoads, ProjectWise, iTwin/model review).
Understanding of challenges of operating effectively in a dynamic major project development environment.
