We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Automotive Product Engineer to join our dynamic technical and compliance team in Dublin. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple international vehicle brands and product lines, ensuring that our products meet the highest technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
As an Automotive Product Engineer, you will play a central role in ensuring the technical integrity, compliance, and performance of all Harris Group vehicles. Your responsibilities will include:
* Vehicle Type Approval & Compliance
* Manage and oversee European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA), NSSTA, IVA, and national approvals for all vehicle categories.
* Liaise with regulatory authorities, technical services, and OEM partners to ensure ongoing compliance with EU and UK legislation.
* Maintain detailed technical records and certification documentation across all brands and model lines.
* Vehicle Build Specifications
* Develop, review, and maintain vehicle build specifications for each brand and model variant.
* Provide engineering input to product development, conversions, and custom modifications.
* Collaborate with production, sales, and aftersales teams to ensure technical feasibility and consistency across vehicle builds.
* Technical Investigations & Support
* Lead technical incident and defect investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
* Support warranty, quality, and field service teams in diagnosing and resolving complex vehicle issues.
* Provide expert technical advice on component failures, system interactions, and safety-related matters.
* Product Development & Continuous Improvement
* Contribute to new product introduction (NPI) projects, from concept to production.
* Identify opportunities for engineering improvements in quality, performance, or compliance.
* Support the integration of emerging technologies (e.g., EV, alternative fuels, ADAS systems).
* Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with internal departments—sales, aftersales, workshop, and parts—to ensure product alignment and technical accuracy.
* Provide technical training and documentation to internal teams and dealer networks.
* Support customer-facing activities where engineering input is required.
Key Requirements
Essential:
* Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Automotive, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
* Minimum 3–5 years' experience in commercial automotive industry, compliance, or product development.
* Strong knowledge of vehicle type approval processes (EU/UK), standards, and technical documentation.
* Experience with vehicle systems, build specifications, and modification approvals.
* Analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to technical investigations.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to interact across departments and external agencies.
* Proficiency with CAD systems and MS Office suite.
Desirable:
* Experience working with commercial vehicles, buses, or specialist vehicle conversions.
* Knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle technologies.
* Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001 or ISO 26262.
* Project management experience and a proactive, hands-on approach to problem solving.
