Role Purpose
The Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer will drive financial accountability, cost optimization and operational efficiency across cloud platforms within the Cloud Operations organization. This role ensures visibility into cloud spend, implements cost-effective provisioning strategies, and balances financial efficiency with engineering agility.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive FinOps roadmap aligned with organizational goals.
Establish governance policies for resource utilization, provisioning, and budget approvals.
Financial Accountability
Collaborate with Finance, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure cost transparency and budgeting discipline.
Manage vendor relationships (cloud providers, software suppliers), raise purchase orders, and ensure timely invoice processing.
Operational Excellence
Design and implement a FinOps observability platform to monitor cloud costs and usage.
Integrate cloud cost management tools into the SDLC.
Define and track KPIs for cloud cost optimization and efficiency.
Implement policies for instance rightsizing, resource provisioning, and decommissioning unused resources.
Drive automation initiatives for cost efficiency across cloud environments.
Education & Awareness
Promote FinOps best practices across engineering teams.
Conduct training sessions to improve cost awareness and financial literacy within technical teams.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience in FinOps, Cloud Operations, or Cloud Financial Management.
Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated cost models.
Experience with cost management tools.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Ability to design governance frameworks and implement automation for cost optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
FinOps Certified Practitioner or similar certification.
Background in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Architecture.
Familiarity with budgeting and financial processes in large organizations
