EXTERNAL COMPETITIONApplications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:Ref. 2025/128Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow in ThrombosisApplications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow in Thrombosis at The Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.Job Title and GradeRegistrarDetails of ServiceThe Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow in Thrombosis will play a key role in advancing the Thrombocalc project. This is a fixed-term, 6-month position designed to accelerate delivery of the project's early milestones and generate high-quality clinical evidence to support multi-centre implementation.The Fellow will be responsible for coordinating and delivering KPI-driven work packages, including clinical data collection, analysis, and reporting. The role requires a strong clinical background, with experience in thrombosis or related areas, and proven research skills. The successful candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary consortium team, contributing both clinical insight and academic expertise to ensure outputs are delivered ahead of schedule.This position offers an opportunity to develop expertise at the interface of clinical practice and translational research, while making a significant contribution to a high-impact national programme in thrombosis.Reporting RelationshipConsultant Haematologist then Clinical Director/Master.1. Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesCollaboration and TeamworkWork collaboratively with the Thrombocalc consortium, the National Clinical Programme for VTE (NCP-VTE), and the Department of Health Women's Health Programme to ensure that patient care and improved clinical outcomes are central to all activities.Participate as a professional, punctual, and dedicated member of the research and clinical team, contributing to rapid KPI-driven deliverables.Strive to deliver, develop, and improve services which promote safe and effective VTE prevention and management, respecting the roles of other team members and stakeholders.Create, promote, and maintain open communications and strong collaborative relationships across disciplines and institutions.Maintain the principles of equity, accountability, and quality in daily work, ensuring that all outputs are aligned with the highest standards of clinical research and service delivery.Thrombocalc / National VTE ProgrammeContribute to the delivery of Thrombocalc work packages, ensuring milestones are achieved on time and to the highest standard.Support the integration of Thrombocalc outputs with NCP-VTE priorities, particularly in relation to VTE risk assessment, treatment failure definitions, and prognostic modelling.Ensure that ongoing quality requirements in relation to VTE prevention and care are met in line with national standards and relevant policies.Contribute to the development, testing, and roll-out of evidence-based VTE prevention practices and novel risk assessment tools, ensuring systems are in place to achieve compliance with guidelines and effective prevention of VTE in women's health.Collaborate with national and international researchers and clinicians to ensure that Thrombocalc outputs are optimally validated, disseminated, and embedded into clinical practice.Contribute to awareness campaigns and knowledge translation initiatives related to VTE in pregnancy and women's health, working in partnership with national stakeholders and patient organisations.Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, workshops, and governance fora relevant to Thrombocalc, NCP-VTE, and the Women's Health Programme.Ensure research findings are translated into practical outputs that strengthen the national and international role of Ireland in VTE prevention and women's health.Research, Education, and DevelopmentLead and contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting to generate robust evidence in support of the Thrombocalc project.Develop and disseminate evidence-based information, guidelines, and reference materials in collaboration with NCP-VTE and partner organisations.Integrate research findings into clinical practice to inform safe and effective VTE prevention strategies, with particular focus on women's health.Provide education and supervision as appropriate to students, registrars, and allied professionals, supporting capacity building in thrombosis and VTE prevention research.Contribute to national and international scientific meetings, publications, and symposia, promoting the reputation of Thrombocalc, NCP-VTE, and Ireland's leadership in the field.Eligibility CriteriaQualifications and/ or experienceThe postholder must hold a recognised primary medical degree and be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Council of Ireland on the General or Specialist Register, with evidence of continued registration provided as requested.A postgraduate research qualification to doctoral (PhD) level is required, with a demonstrated track record of applied clinical research in thrombosis or related fields.Candidates must have a minimum of five years' post-graduate clinical experience, including direct experience in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of venous thromboembolism (VTE).HealthA candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.CharacterEach candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good characterAgeAge restrictions shall only apply to a candidate where he/she is not classified as a new entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation Act, A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.Skills, competencies and/or knowledgeEssential skills include advanced expertise in data synthesis, epidemiology, and clinical trial methodology, with particular focus on prognostic modelling and treatment evaluation in VTE.The postholder should be proficient in the use of relevant IT resources and analytical packages, including statistical software for data analysis.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with the ability to build effective collaborations across multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams.The role requires the ability to work independently, exercise sound clinical and research judgement, and prioritise tasks in a pressured environment.Applicants must have proven experience in initiating, developing, and delivering projects on time, producing outputs that support You will receive full information on your responsibilities under the Act on appointment.SalaryThe salary scale for this role is Registrar:€68,891 €71,544 €74,133 €76,039 €78,577 €81,126New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011).
