Overview
Assist journeymen in planning, layout, installation, testing, and repair of all types of construction-related systems and components, adhering to all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
Responsibilities
1. Use appropriate hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, wire strippers, wrenches) and power tools (drills, threading machines, grinders, saws) to fit and install materials and components.
2. Assist journeymen with installation or repair of fixtures, apparatus, and equipment as directed.
3. Measure, cut, and bend materials under supervision.
4. Assist with assigned tasks, which may include working at heights or in trenches/excavations.
5. Disassemble and remove damaged or worn components under supervision.
6. Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation.
7. Load, transport, unload, and supply materials, tools, and equipment to craft workers.
8. Maintain a clean work area and restock supplies as needed.
9. Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
10. Follow safety protocols, participate in safety programs, report hazards, and use stop work authority when necessary.
11. Report accidents and participate in investigations.
12. Engage in pre-job planning and safety discussions, and address hazards.
13. Understand and respond to safety signals and warning devices.
14. Support lockout/tagout procedures and attend safety training.
15. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
16. Coordinate with other crafts and team members.
17. Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring.
18. Produce quality work according to plans, specifications, and standards.
19. Learn to read and interpret plans and specifications.
20. Assist in planning, installing, and repairing systems, and learn layout skills.
21. Observe system functioning for hazards and notify supervision.
22. Inspect field conditions, identify issues, and take corrective actions.
23. If certified, operate construction equipment safely and perform daily inspections.
24. Comply with company policies and perform other duties as assigned.
25. Work across crafts as trained and requested.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
* Experience as a helper or laborer in construction, or a combination of training and work experience, with basic craft knowledge.
* Must be at least 18 years old.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Commit to health and safety principles, including zero injuries.
* Proficient in one or more craft areas.
* Basic math skills, including reading scales and fractions.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Knowledge of construction components, systems, codes, and safety procedures.
* Necessary tools and ability to follow directions.
