Senior Speech and Language Therapist
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Based at Blarney Rehabilitation Unit and any buildings within the Mercy University Complex.
* Provide assessment, planning, implementation and review of interventions for all patients referred to the service with communication and feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing (FEDS) difficulti
* Document all assessment, diagnosis, treatment/intervention plans, clinical notes, relevant contacts and summaries in accordance with departmental and professional standards.
* Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post
* Seek advice and assistance from Speech and Language Therapist Manager or Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist with any assigned cases or issues that prove beyond the scope of his/her professional competence in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.
* Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with members of the multi disciplinary team
* Supervise staff grade Speech and Language Therapists within the department.
* Operate within the scope of Speech and Language Therapy practice as set out by the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists and in accordance with local policies, procedures and guidelines.
* In conjunction with the Speech and Language Therapy Manger/Clinical Specialist SLT, contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies and guidelines while adhering to existing standards and protocols.
* Represent the department/profession/team at meetings and conferences as designated.
* Carry out other duties as assigned by the Speech and Language Therapy manager.
Eligibility Criteria
* Be registered or be eligible for registration as a Speech and Language Therapist by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
And
* Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Speech and Language Therapist Register maintained by the Speech and Language Therapist Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
And
* All candidates must have 3 years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experienc
* Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
Annual Registration
* On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Speech and Language Therapists maintained by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU
And
* Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)
