Role Overview
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role of Trainee Accountant will involve providing accounting services in relation to a portfolio of reinsurance transactions. This is a hybrid role which allows for a balanced approach of working from home for part of the week and working in the Dublin office for the remainder of the week.
What you will help us to achieve
1. Preparation of monthly and quarterly accounts on a transaction basis and reporting same to the Finance Manager/Senior Finance Manager
2. Management of the day to day working relationships with brokers, clients and other internal departments in relation to queries and analysis on client statements.
3. Preparation of variance analysis explaining transaction results versus prior periods and/or budget.
4. Ensuring transaction accounts are settled in a timely manner and liaise with treasury personnel to ensure sufficient liquidity is available to facilitate settlements or to advise of incoming receipts to facilitate investment.
5. Reconciliation of accounts to the general ledger system, ensure third party backup is available to support all balances and entries.
6. Adhere to all internal controls over the financial reporting process.
7. Facilitate and assist with provision of information to internal and external audit teams in order to facilitate appropriate audit of transactions.
What you will need to be successful in the role
1. Strong numerical ability
2. A part qualified accountant with a good understanding of the accountancy career path
3. Relevant finance experience in a life insurance or life reinsurance environment is an advantage
4. Well developed verbal and written communication skills
5. An ability to plan work, manage time effectively and ensure timely completion of all deliverables
6. A solid academic record and may be educated to Degree level in a numerical discipline (e.g. Accountancy, Statistics, Economics.)
7. A good working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint.) Any SAP experience is beneficial
8. A self-motivated approach to work with the capacity to work assertively and on their own initiative as part of a team and across teams
