Job Title: Director of Nursing & Integrated Care
Reference No: 03.020(2026)
Department / Directorate: Executive Management Team
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Purpose of the Role:

The Director of Nursing & Integrated Care will act as a professional and clinical accountable leader in the development of nursing practice and standards to ensure that patients, their relatives and carers have a positive experience when assessing and receiving care/services from the hospital.
To provide Executive leadership and strategic direction to Nursing and Healthcare assistants.
Executive lead with responsibility for implementation of Integrated Care between the acute hospital and the RHA/IHA in line with Sláintecare policy.
Executive lead on the delivery of quality and patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience, including the management of complaints, concerns and patient advocacy, leading on an ongoing continuous quality improvement programme.
Contribute to strategic developments including new service developments and infrastructural planning and improvements, ensuring that high quality patient care is as the forefront.
To act for and represent the Chief Executive and hospital with all stakeholders on the assigned areas of responsibility and accountability.
Provide assurance to the EMT and Hospital board on the standard of care delivered

Key Accountabilities:

Ensure the nursing profession actively contribute to the hospital’s vision for integrated, high quality, dignified and patient focused health services.
Lead the development and maintenance of robust governance structures that support clear accountability and aligned responsibilities across nursing and integrated care.
Provide executive leadership on the hospitals work plan on public and patient engagement, ensuring meaningful community involvement in the planning and delivery of health improvement, public health and healthcare services in accordance with national and local strategies.
Make informed and often challenging decisions on priorities, navigating ambiguity and complexity to shape a forward looking vision for nursing within the organisation. Exercise sound judgement to support risk management and advance the strategic direction of the hospital.
Keep the Chief Executive informed of any service or care issue that may impact patient safety, organisational reputation or overall performance of the organisation.
Foster a culture that supports open and honest dialogue on clinical quality and the patient / service user experience; acting as a conduit for these insights through the use of evidence based outcome data (including nursing metrics), patient feedback and compelling narrative.
Provide executive leadership and governance oversight on the Infection Prevention and Control Nursing team, including chairing infection outbreak meetings as required.
Oversee and ensure the effective management of complaints and patient advocacy, promoting a learning culture where feedback drives quality improvement and helps reduce future complaints. Ensuring appropriate governance forum is in place to monitor identified learning needs, support action completion and provide with ongoing audit assurance through data driven performance indicators.
Contribute actively as a member of the Executive Management Team, supporting the strategic leadership and operational management of the hospital.

Qualifications & Experience required:

Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses of Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or be entitled to be so registered
10 years post registration experience
5 years Nursing Management experience at minimum of CNM II level, of which 3 must have been in an acute hospital setting
Possess post graduate qualification at not less than level 8
Possess demonstrable and sufficient clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative, knowledge and ability to discharge the functions of the role
Demonstrate continuous management development through relevant continuous education.

Reward & Recognition

Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 0508: €122,421 127,594 132,861 138,232 143,694 149,260. These particulars are subject to change in line with overall public pay policy. Point on scale allocated is based on relevant HSE Circulars.
The appointment is whole time, permanent, and pensionable.
The annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year
Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement
