Position Summary:
The Mechanical Designer works under the direction of the Design Team Leader and also utilises independent judgment to perform the day-to-day project duties of designing, developing, and releasing deliverables. This includes detail & assembly drawings and related bills-of material used in the fabrication of equipment for pilot and commercial scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing, primarily pressure vessel assemblies for fluid & gas handling and motorized agitation systems. The primary responsibility involves generating design plans using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software. This position requires high attention to detail and a strong understanding of ASME/ BPE Bioprocessing Equipment design standards.
Responsibilities:
1. Work effectively in a professional team-based office environment and meet customer-focused deadlines.
2. Review and understand customer specifications and requirements.
3. Design and maintain documents with technical support from engineering and project management teams.
4. Create and maintain piping arrangement drawings (top assembly and piping module) using P&ID and customer specifications, including detail drawings, spool drawings, and bills of materials.
5. Generate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to document and communicate control changes to design documentation as per company procedures.
6. Create and organize project files following departmental standards.
7. Conduct design reviews with internal teams and customers, recording and communicating necessary changes.
8. Support manufacturing processes related to published designs and released documentation.
9. Produce 'as-built' design documentation for Quality assurance.
10. Perform other tasks as assigned.
11. Travel as required.
Qualifications:
1. Level 6 degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting or equivalent.
2. At least 1 year postgraduate experience in drafting and design.
3. Knowledge of 3D parametric CAD software.
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
5. Attention to detail with a solid understanding of drafting standards, design fundamentals, and fabrication processes.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
7. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
9. Experience in creating piping arrangement drawings with 3D models, spool drawings, and bills of materials.
10. Experience processing ECNs and BOMs.
11. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Other Preferred Requirements:
1. Ability to manage projects from conception to production.
2. 1-2 years' experience in a related industry using 3D CAD software, processing ECNs, BOMs, and related documentation.
3. Experience with Autodesk Inventor, Routed Systems, and AutoCAD 2D/3D.
4. Experience with ERP software for item and BOM creation, preferably Syteline.
5. Knowledge of ASME/BPE Bioprocessing Equipment standards.
