Position Summary:
The Mechanical Designer works under the direction of the Design Team Leader and uses independent judgment to perform day-to-day project duties, including designing, developing, and releasing deliverables. This includes detail & assembly drawings and related bills of material used in the fabrication of equipment for pilot and commercial-scale biopharmaceutical manufacturing, primarily pressure vessel assemblies for fluid & gas handling and motorized agitation systems. The primary responsibility involves generating design plans using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software. This role requires high attention to detail and a strong understanding of ASME/BPE Bioprocessing Equipment design standards.
Responsibilities:
* Work effectively in a professional team environment to meet customer-driven deadlines.
* Review and understand customer specifications and requirements.
* Design and maintain technical documents with support from project engineering and management.
* Create and maintain piping arrangement drawings (top assembly and piping module) using P&ID and customer specifications, including detail drawings, spool drawings, and bills of materials.
* Generate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to document and publish design changes as per company procedures.
* Maintain project files following departmental best practices.
* Conduct design reviews internally and with customers and project management.
* Record and communicate changes during design reviews to the project team.
* Support manufacturing with published designs and released documentation.
* Produce 'as-built' design documentation for quality control.
* Perform other assigned tasks and travel as required.
Qualifications:
* Level 6 degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting or equivalent.
* At least 1 year postgraduate experience in drafting and design.
* Knowledge of 3D parametric CAD software.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Detail-oriented with a solid understanding of drafting standards, design fundamentals, and fabrication processes.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Experience creating piping arrangement drawings with 3D models, spool drawings, and bills of materials.
* Experience processing ECNs and BOMs.
* Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Other Preferred Requirements:
* Experience managing projects from conception to production.
* 1-2 years in a related industry using 3D CAD software, processing ECNs, BOMs, and related documentation.
* Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Routed Systems.
* Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD 2D/3D.
* Familiarity with ERP software like Syteline.
* Knowledge of ASME/BPE Bioprocessing Equipment standards.
