Veon is seeking to employ an ecologist with a background in ornithology to join our growing environmental team. This role involves extensive fieldwork, necessarily working at remote locations and in keeping with the times that allow for the successful capture of survey data. The successful candidate will play a key role in conducting bird surveys, assessing habitat suitability, preparing ecological reports, and supporting clients on a broad range of projects including conservation and biodiversity-based activities. This role is ideal for someone passionate about avian ecology and applying theirexpertiseto real-world environmental challengesand contributing to a growingteam specialism. Key Responsibilities Conduct field surveys, including vantage point surveys, breeding bird surveys, winter bird counts, and species-specific monitoring. Identifybird species by sight and sound with a high degree of accuracy. Prepare technical reports, survey summaries, and client-facing documents. Support project planning and mitigation strategies aligned with conservation legislation and best practices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies. Maintainaccuratefield data and contribute to internal knowledge sharing. Deliver quality reportsfor clients to high professional standards. Essential Qualifications & Skills Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field. Working knowledge of ornithology, including identification, survey methods, and data interpretation. Experience conducting ecological fieldwork in various environments. Strong understanding of relevant wildlife legislation, bird protection guidelines, and ecological assessment frameworks. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent computer literacy. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Full Irish driving licence. Excellent written and spoken English. Resident and authorised to work in Ireland. Desirable Skills Experience with GIS mapping and spatial data analysis. Familiarity with acoustic monitoring technologies and data processing tools.
