With quarrying, asphalt, and concrete operations across Mayo, Sligo, and Roscommon, the company is committed to best‑practice environmental management, sustainable operations, and high-quality service delivery.About the RoleThe Planning Officer will support the company's quarrying, concrete, and asphalt operations by managing planning applications, ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating environmental reporting, and liaising with local authorities and stakeholders. The role requires strong technical, organisational, and communication skills, with an understanding of the Irish planning system and the regulatory frameworks governing quarry and construction materials operations.ResponsibilitiesPlanning & DevelopmentPrepare, submit, and manage planning applications for quarry extensions, material changes, and operational developments.Coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening Reports where required.Conduct planning feasibility assessments for new sites or expansions.Ensure compliance with existing planning permissions, conditions, and timeframes.Regulatory ComplianceMaintain up-to-date knowledge of Irish planning legislation, EPA licensing, quarry regulations, and environmental obligations.Oversee preparation of annual planning compliance reports, Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), and monitoring data.Liaise with local authorities (e.g., Mayo County Council), NPWS, EPA, and other statutory bodies.Data Management & ReportingMaintain planning files, GIS data, mapping, and site boundary information.Track planning conditions and operational timelines, ensuring deadlines are met.Prepare reports for internal management and attend audits and regulatory inspections.Stakeholder EngagementEngage with local residents, landowners, consultants, and community groups where required.Attend planning meetings, hearings, and site visits.Manage external consultants supporting planning, environmental, and engineering work.QualificationsDegree in Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Engineering, or related discipline.Required SkillsStrong understanding of the Irish Planning & Development Act and related statutory processes.Experience preparing or managing planning applications.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong organisational and project management abilities.Proficiency with mapping tools (GIS, AutoCAD, or similar).Full clean driver's licence.Preferred SkillsExperience in quarrying, aggregates, construction materials, or infrastructure projects.Knowledge of EPA licensing, water monitoring, dust/noise monitoring, and quarry environmental compliance.Familiarity with EIA/EAR/AA processes.Experience working with local authorities or private planning consultancies.Pay range and compensation packageCompetitive salary depending on experience.Pension scheme.Opportunities for training and professional development (e.g., RTPI accreditation support).Dynamic role across quarry, concrete, and asphalt operations in the West of Ireland.
