The opportunity
If you’re an experienced ecologist ready to take a leading role in shaping major environmental and infrastructure projects, this is your opportunity to step into a position where your expertise truly drives outcomes. You’ll join a dynamic, multidisciplinary consultancy working across renewable energy, waste management, civil infrastructure, and large‑scale environmental projects all with a strong pipeline of exciting work.
This is more than a job. It’s a chance to influence national‑level projects, mentor emerging talent, and elevate ecological standards across diverse sectors. Locations include Cork, Dublin, and wider Ireland.
What You’ll Do
As Principal Ecologist, you will be the go‑to expert for ecological strategy, delivery, and quality. Your role will include:
Leading ecological input across a wide range of complex, high‑profile projects
Overseeing ecological surveys, fieldwork programmes, and technical assessments
Preparing and reviewing EcIAs, AAs, biodiversity chapters for EIARs, and other key deliverables
Developing and implementing Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
Ensuring technical excellence, accuracy, and consistency across all outputs
Acting as an expert witness at oral hearings when required
Building strong client relationships and representing the ecology discipline in design and project meetings
Supporting the growth and development of the ecology team
This is a senior role with real influence — ideal for someone who wants to shape strategy, not just deliver tasks.
You’ll thrive here if you have:
A degree in ecology or a related environmental discipline
10+ years’ post‑graduate experience in ecological consultancy
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM, CIWEM)
Strong knowledge of Irish wildlife and conservation legislation
Proven experience preparing CEMPs and delivering high‑quality technical reports
Excellent communication, project management, and organisational skills
Experience acting as an expert witness (advantageous)
A full, clean driving licence
If you’re passionate about ecology and ready to take a leadership role, you’ll fit right in.
