Description
Details of Service
Cork University Hospital (CUH) has approximately 800 beds, expanding to 1,000 upon completion of the transfer of additional services. It employs around 3,269 staff across multiple professions and is the primary teaching hospital for University College Cork (UCC). CUH is a designated Major Trauma Centre offering a wide range of specialties, including Neurosciences, Cardiac Services, Orthopaedics, and more. It serves as a regional centre for secondary and tertiary care for a catchment population of approximately 550,000 in the HSE Southern area and 1.1 million overall.
The HSE is restructuring into six Health Regions to improve accountability and service delivery, with the South West region managing health and social care services in Cork and Kerry, including primary care, community services, and voluntary sector services. The transition to these new structures will occur throughout 2025.
CUH is also one of nine designated cancer centres under the HSE National Cancer Care Programme, providing comprehensive cancer services to several counties, including rapid access clinics, surgical treatments, medical and radiation oncology, and supportive care.
The Dunmanway Day Unit within CUH coordinates care for oncology/haematology patients receiving systemic treatments, immunotherapy, transplants, and clinical trials.
Purpose of the Post
The CNM 2 role is crucial for service planning, resource coordination, quality assurance, staffing, staff development, practice development, and clinical leadership.
