Legal Researcher - 12-month Contract Overview The Researcher help develop and deliver evidence-based research outputs in fulfilment of the organisation's aims.
You will assist in advancing the mission of promoting evidence-based reform.
The role provides opportunities for the Researcher to deepen their expertise, lead discrete projects, and engage with a broad network of stakeholders in the subject matter and academic sectors, as well as with policy makers.
Responsibilities The Researcher will carry out the following duties in line with strategic objectives Assist the Head of Department in the implementation of the multi-annual programme of research.
Conduct accurate, high-quality legal research and analysis, and draft evidence-based and authoritative research papers on topics within the thematic focus.
Progress research projects, delivering high standards of research, analysis, and writing.
Assist the Head of Department in the development of proposals for reform, underpinned by credible arguments that are reflective of the public interest.
Support the Head of Department in the publication of a series of research papers which demonstrate a real depth of research, a deep consideration of policy issues, and make a positive contribution to policy development.
Assist in the organisation of debates, roundtable events, panel discussions, public meetings, etc. on issues relating to the research focus.
Assist the Head of Department in the execution of a communications plan to increase awareness of the work.
Engage closely with colleagues in the Policy Department as well as with colleagues across all other Departments.
Monitor developments in relation to the areas of focus.
Engage with stakeholders on matters pertaining to the research themes and outputs; attend events related to the work as a representative.
Serve as Secretary to a Committee.
Knowledge & Skills Required Legal Research Experience Essential A third-level qualification in law, public policy, human rights or similar is required.
A professional qualification would be desirable.
At least two year's relevant experience in legal research and writing.
A strong understanding of the policy development process, legislative process, and legal systems in both Ireland and the European Union.
Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills, with attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
Ability to evaluate complex legal and policy issues and distil them into clear, concise writing that informs and engages legal practitioners and non-practitioners alike.
Experience of utilising legal databases and academic research tools.
Solution-oriented, highly collaborative, and self-motivated.
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated as well as being highly collaborative.
An excellent command of written and spoken English.
An ability to meet deadlines and a track record of success in handling competing demands.
