Instructional Paraprofessional with Hearing Impaired Interpretative Skills ******** School Yr)
Job Status: FLSA Overtime Eligible
Reports To: Building Administrator
Department: Academics and Student Learning
Pay Range: Six (6)
Position Summary: To provide interpretive services and/or physical, emotional, behavioral, and academic support to students with hearing impairments and/or other disabilities.
Job Qualifications
Valid Ohio Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired License.
Interpretation or Transliteration Certificate in American Sign Language (ASL).
One of the following requirements:
Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester or 72 quarter hours verified by transcript).
Obtain an associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
Meet rigorous state or local academic assessment demonstrating knowledge of and ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and/or Signed Exact English (SEE).
Good human relations and ability to communicate courteously.
Neat appearance.
Experience working with children preferred.
Alternatives acceptable as deemed appropriate by Board of Education.
Essential Duties
Provides interpretive services using communication methods that best meet student needs and works with staff to ensure least restrictive environment.
Assists students or staff when interpretive services are not needed, as directed by Intervention Specialist.
Supports inclusive educational environment and helps students participate in appropriate peer group activities.
Assists in preparation of classroom materials, displays, and student accommodations/methods.
Arranges and facilitates interpreting for parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and school programs.
Assists the Intervention Specialist with routine classroom and school activities, implementation of IEP services, behavior plans, student assessment, and playground/lunch duty.
Assists special education students in regular education classes, attending class with students and providing support as needed.
Maintains good learning environment including classroom management.
Assists students with personal health care needs such as toileting, personal hygiene, and use of adaptive equipment.
Participates in professional growth activities.
Ensures safety of students.
Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.
Abides by substance policy (no alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance use).
Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.
Serves as a role model for students.
Instills in students belief in ethical principles and democratic values.
Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information.
Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
Terms of Employment
191 Days (183 work days, 8 paid holidays); 7 hours per day excluding lunch to be established by Supervisor.
Salary as provided by negotiated agreement.
Work year to be established by Board of Education.
Salary
