The Role
We are hiring a Southern Correspondent to join our team. This role, reporting to the News Editor, will be responsible for reporting on issues in Cork and Munster while working alongside visual journalists and audience teams to produce digital-first coverage of the region. The Southern Correspondent will also engage with and grow our audience by taking part in podcasts, live events, videocasts, and other channels.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with colleagues and the newsdesk to ensure that the Irish Examiner provides authoritative coverage of breaking news and developing issues on Cork and the Munster region.
* To contribute to the editorial vision of the Irish Examiner, proposing long-term ideas, projects and series that deepen our coverage across all pillars in Cork and Munster.
* To help shape Irish Examiner digital-first coverage, working closely with editors, visual journalists and audience teams to create stories that are compelling and accessible.
* Ensure that all the coverage provided demonstrates the highest levels of integrity, equity and does not breach any libel legislation.
* To draw legally contentious stories or complaints about coverage swiftly to the attention of the News Editor.
* Working as part of the newsroom, liaise with contributors and columnists as necessary, maintaining good and effective working relationships with colleagues
* To play a proactive role in amplifying our coverage across other media while also participating in podcasts and videocasts.
* To participate in live events, podcasts, newsletters and reader Q&As as required.
* To adhere to agreed house style in terms of both Editorial policy, design guidelines and production values and workflows.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience of covering issues relevant to the region.
* A portfolio showcasing an ability to break stories and cover developing issues.
* Experience of effectively collaborating across multiple teams.
* A strong understanding of multimedia channels and digital storytelling.
* Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
