The Role
We are seeking an experienced Yard and Stores Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our yard and stores within a busy Civil Engineering and Utilities environment. This role involves managing inventory, coordinating materials, and leading a team to ensure efficient, safe, and well‑organised operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising yard staff, delegating tasks effectively, and maintaining high standards of discipline, safety, and performance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and delegate tasks to yard and stores staff, ensuring productivity and discipline
Oversee daily yard and stores operations, maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient environment
Manage inventory, including stock control, stock checks, and accurate record‑keeping
Ensure correct picking, packing, and timely dispatch/collection of materials
Coordinate loading and unloading of deliveries safely and efficientlyLiaise with site crews, logistics, and suppliers to ensure materials are available as required
Enforce health and safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and hazard reporting
Monitor team performance and address any issues promptly
Maintain documentation for all stock movements, deliveries, and collections
Identify and implement improvements to enhance operational efficiency
Qualifications
Proven experience in a supervisory role within construction, utilities, or warehouse/stores environment
Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to enforce discipline when required
Good organisational and problem‑solving abilities
Strong communicator with a hands‑on approach
Experience with inventory management systems and stock control processes
Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a construction environment
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, demanding environment
Valid Forklift or plant operation certification is desirable
