Navan, Co.
Meath.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Mechanical Estimator are outlined as follows:
Responsibilities
Estimate Preparation:
Develop detailed and accurate estimates for mechanical engineering works based on outline drawings and specifications, ensuring realistic risk assessment and adherence to company guidelines and industry standards.
Design Development Participation:
Engage in the design development process to evaluate buildability, material selection, innovative solutions, and cost-effectiveness; provide early-stage pricing during tendering.
Risk and Governance Compliance:
Ensure all procedures, including risk management and governance processes, are followed, documented, and properly authorised.
Tender Preparation:
Contribute to the development of tender preparation and construction programmes, collaborating with other functions to prepare detailed staff schedules for tenders.
Procurement Planning:
Work with central and regional buyers to prepare procurement plans, identify suppliers and subcontractors, and negotiate terms, conditions, and discount levels; prepare and send enquiries to obtain competitive quotations for mechanical engineering resources.
Technical and Industry Awareness:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical developments and new methods within the mechanical engineering industry; apply this knowledge to enhance estimate accuracy and competitiveness.
Financial Modelling:
Develop financial models for framework submissions, including setting appropriate staff rates and aligning them with project budgets.
Cost Coding and Feedback:
Utilise the standardised cost coding system to enable meaningful feedback and future cost capture, ensuring consistency and accuracy in financial tracking.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within the water, wastewater, or construction sectors.
Proven track record in preparing detailed and accurate mechanical estimates.
Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
Excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and construction methods.
Proficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Minimum Experience Required (Years): 4
Minimum Qualification: Level 7 (including Diploma & Ordinary Bachelor Degree)
Desirable
Ability Skills: Administration, Analytical, Communications, Computer Literacy
Competency Skills: Collaboration, Decision Making, Flexibility, Initiative
