Role Purpose
The Project Engineering Health & Safety Manager will ensure the safe delivery of all capital projects within a highly regulated biopharmaceutical and medical device environment. This role is responsible for leading health, safety, and environmental (HSE) initiatives across projects, managing contractor compliance, and embedding a proactive safety culture. You will play a key role in protecting people, assets, and operations while supporting the successful execution of complex engineering projects.
Responsibilities
Lead and maintain the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Management System for capital projects.
Ensure compliance with PSCS/PSDP requirements, regulations, and corporate HSE standards.
Oversee contractor safety performance and review project RAMS and safety plans.
Conduct risk assessments and safety reviews, including HAZOP, HAZID, and process safety evaluations.
Lead incident and near-miss investigations, implementing corrective actions and sharing lessons learned.
Conduct safety audits and inspections, ensuring timely closure of findings.
Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training to employees and contractors.
Support integration of technical safety principles, including ATEX, machinery, and electrical safety, into project design and execution.
Track, analyse, and report HSE performance metrics to project teams and leadership.
Promote and embed a proactive safety culture across all project stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Third-level qualification in Health & Safety or a related discipline.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a PSCS or similar safety leadership role within construction or engineering projects.
Proven experience managing safety in regulated industrial environments (pharmaceutical or biotech experience an advantage).
Strong understanding of PSCS/PSDP regulations and HSA guidelines.
Proficiency in EHS reporting systems and data-driven performance management.
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Additional certifications such as IOSH, CIF PSCS Training, Manual Handling Instructor, or First Aid are advantageous.
