Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Contracts Manager to join our team. The Contracts Manager will oversee the preparation, negotiation, execution, and management of contracts relating to civil engineering and groundwork projects. This role requires an individual who can manage multiple contracts, ensure compliance with legal requirements, and mitigate risks while supporting our operational teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
•
Contract Drafting & Negotiation:
Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other third-party service providers.
Ensure that all terms and conditions are clearly defined, protecting the company's interests and mitigating risks, particularly in relation to groundworks projects.

Contract Management & Compliance:
Monitor contract performance and ensure that contractual obligations are met for all groundworks projects.
Ensure all contracts are compliant with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and other industry-specific legal requirements.

Budget & Cost Control:
Collaborate with the finance and project management teams to ensure contracts align with budget and cost projections.
Review and assess variations and claims in line with contractual terms, ensuring financial impact is well-managed.

Risk Management:
Identify and assess risks in contracts and project execution, advising senior management on mitigation strategies.
Handle any disputes that arise from contracts, working closely with the legal team to resolve issues promptly.

Collaboration & Support:
Work closely with site managers, project managers, and the operations team to ensure that contractual requirements are understood and adhered to on the ground.
Support business development teams in tendering processes, including reviewing contract terms for potential new projects.

Supplier & Subcontractor Management:
Negotiate terms and establish agreements with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of resources, equipment, and services.
Oversee subcontractor performance to ensure compliance with contract specifications, deadlines, and quality standards.

Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain comprehensive records of all contracts and related documentation, including amendments and correspondence.
Prepare regular reports on contract status, project milestones, and financial matters for senior management.
• Continuous Improvement:
Review existing contracts and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve delivery.
Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure best practices in contract management across the business.
Requirements
Education
:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, Law, or a related field. A professional qualification in construction law or contract management is a plus.
Experience:
• At least 5 years of experience in contracts management, specifically in construction or groundworks projects.
• Proven experience drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts related to civil engineering, groundworks, or infrastructure projects.
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, or bespoke contracts common in groundworks and civil engineering.
• Familiarity with construction regulations, safety standards, and industry specific compliance requirements.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
•Strong financial and cost control understanding, with experience managing budgets and forecasting costs.
• Proficient in contract management software and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

• Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations relevant to groundworks and construction projects.
• Experience with project management software and planning tools.
