Role: Commissioning Process Engineer

Location Base: Cork / Loughrea / Navan Regional Office with coverage across multiple options nationwide (Loughrea, Thurles, Leixlip, Cork) (Site with travel)

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

* Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a similar role, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.
* Minimum of a Level 7 Degree in applicable Engineering qualification such as Chemical, Water/Wastewater, Environmental Engineering or similar hands‑on experience.
* Experienced in the process commissioning stage and troubleshooting of water and wastewater treatment processes.
* The ideal candidate should have a good working knowledge of different treatment processes e.g. filter operation/DAFF/clarification process and understand how and where the process can be optimised and improved.
* Ability to sample and perform on‑site laboratory tests.
* Good technical knowledge of chemical and biological water and wastewater treatment processes required.
* Ability to liaise directly with customers on commissioning activities and sign‑off.
* Ability to work as part of a team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage time in a pressurised environment during the commissioning process.
* Ability to use own initiative, problem‑solve and adjust as issues arise during commissioning.
* Good working knowledge of MS packages such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
* Full driving licence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

* Work as part of a team in the delivery of one or more projects at any one time, embracing the ethos of a “one team” culture.
* Ensure Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability standards, policies and procedures are always adhered to on‑site.
* Support project delivery and process design teams in the development and preparation of process commissioning test documentation.
* Support project delivery teams in the development and commissioning of water and wastewater treatment processes, managing the full life cycle of the process project from raw water/river/influent samples to optimising chemical dose rates to managing treated water results.
* Perform jar testing across varying raw water quality to demonstrate which chemicals provide optimum results and produce a process report on the data.
* Based on jar testing and laboratory data, set initial process set‑points into the PLC/HMI/SCADA systems to ensure start‑up levels of treatment and operation can be achieved.
* Provide increased care during the initial phase post turn‑of‑flows to any new system, monitoring the system and any alarms closely and responding promptly.
* Continue to perform on‑site testing and monitoring of the process to ensure operation is in line with performance criteria, making process adjustments as necessary and recording each adjustment and the reasoning.
* Work with site operations/commissioning teams to optimise the process, making changes where they improve water quality and efficient use of chemicals while keeping plants within standards.
* Ensure data is captured on PLC/SCADA system as well as on‑site laboratory and external laboratory testing; compile this data during and at the end of the commissioning and validation phases and draft a performance report for submission to the client.
* Knowledge of wastewater treatment process optimisation including screw press, belt presses, plate presses and centrifuge with poly adjustments and optimisation.
* Hands‑on approach to treatment plants with routine inspection, maintenance and calibration of both online and handheld equipment and instrumentation.
* Answer any resulting queries or non‑compliances arising from performance testing expeditiously.
* Review sludge treatment/dirty wash water processes and implement any remedial measures to ensure discharge compliance.
* Provide advice and guidance to recommend improvement actions to optimise plant performance and deliver cost‑effective treatment while maintaining quality objectives and targets.
* Introduce new processes, procedures and instructions when necessary for plant enhancements and to provide guidance to plant operators.
* Ensure a positive experience for the client and their representatives, instilling a culture of collaboration and cooperation.
* Take ownership of allocated projects, ensuring optimisation activities are completed in a timely manner and reporting progress to the Project Manager.
* Build and promote industry‑leading teams by providing training and mentoring to junior staff and process operational staff.
* Provide troubleshooting and fault‑finding for existing processes at water and wastewater treatment facilities as required, compiling information and preparing a site assessment report.
* Gain knowledge of industry best practice and/or new technology for optimisation of water/wastewater treatment and/or energy efficiencies.
* Seek to improve the commissioning process by providing lessons‑learned feedback and innovative solutions for adoption on future projects.
* Keep up to date with the latest standards and technology through continuous professional development (CPD).
* Other duties as required from time to time.
