About the team and the role:
eBay is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff for their Cloud Databases and Storage organization, which builds and runs a petabyte-scale core data platform powering large-scale database, storage, caching, and media infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to architect, build, and operate the next-generation distributed database and storage platform that supports some of eBay's most critical systems. You will be responsible for scaling eBay's core data infrastructure by collaborating with engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.
What you will accomplish:
- Build and manage massively scalable database and storage systems for eBay.
- Lead and design data infrastructure using your expertise in distributed systems, storage, and large-scale database systems, collaborating with skilled peers.
- Work in an agile environment, focusing on problem solving and engineering precision, assessing technology problems, designing solutions, and driving implementation.
- Collaborate with architects, engineering leaders, and product managers to develop innovative solutions that meet standards and expectations.
- Guide junior and senior engineers across teams in building scalable, high-speed, distributed systems, advocating for quality and standards.
- Contribute to all phases of product development, including design, testing, release, and maintenance.
- Introduce new ideas aligned with technological developments and industry best practices to create a lasting impact for eBay and its customers.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with 10+ years of experience, or MS with 8+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience in architecting, designing, and developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed systems, storage, and databases.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Object-Oriented Design, Distributed Programming, C++, Java, and various database systems (NoSQL and relational).
- Ability to lead architecture discussions, produce design documentation, and participate in reviews.
- Commitment to code quality, maintainability, and continuous improvement of architecture and tech stack.
- Support, release, and on-call responsibilities for a 24x7 operational environment.
