Cpl Recruitment are partnering with a leading global technology and AI-driven organisation to appoint a Head of Architecture & Engineering Operations.This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced architecture professional who is passionate about shaping engineering strategy, driving technical excellence, and enabling high-performing teams at scale.The successful candidate will play a key role in defining architecture governance, engineering best practices, cloud strategy, developer experience, and operational excellence across a complex international technology environment.Working closely with engineering, product, security, finance and executive stakeholders, you will help drive innovation while ensuring technology investments align with business objectives.
Responsibilities
Define and implement architecture strategy, governance frameworks, and engineering standards across the organisationLead and develop a globally distributed architecture function, fostering collaboration and technical excellenceDrive technology decision‑making, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned to long‑term business goalsEstablish and maintain architecture review processes, technical standards, and reusable design patternsPartner with engineering, product, security and business leaders to align technology roadmaps with organisational prioritiesChampion developer productivity through modern tooling, automation, AI‑enabled engineering practices, and continuous improvement initiativesLead cloud and engineering cost optimisation initiatives, ensuring effective governance and operational accountabilityProvide senior‑level technical leadership on strategic programmes, client engagements, and complex solution design activitiesInfluence technology adoption, innovation, and emerging technology evaluation across the organisation
Requirements
10+ years' experience within software engineering, architecture, cloud, or technology leadership environmentsProven experience leading architecture teams and influencing senior stakeholders across complex organisationsStrong background in cloud‑native architecture and modern software engineering practicesExperience establishing governance frameworks, technical standards, and architecture operating modelsKnowledge of enterprise platforms, APIs, data solutions, integration architectures, and AI‑enabled technologiesStrong commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical excellence and business outcomesExperience working within large‑scale, global technology environmentsExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‑technical audiencesArchitecture or cloud certifications would be advantageous
