The Power Plant HSE Manager will lead the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental strategies across a major power generation site. This role is pivotal in ensuring full compliance with HSE regulations, fostering a proactive safety culture, and driving continuous improvement in operational safety standards. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with a practical approach to safety, capable of building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams to align on shared safety goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and coordinate project-specific HSE documentation including HSE Plans, Environmental Management Plans, and Waste Management Plans.
* Liaise with regulatory bodies including local authorities, environmental agencies, and law enforcement.
* Interface regularly with clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment on HSE objectives.
* Lead site audits and inspections to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
* Support tender processes by advising on HSE requirements.
* Chair HSE committee meetings and contribute to project management discussions.
* Oversee incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are shared across teams.
* Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, and statutory compliance.
* Promote behavioural safety and lead training sessions to reinforce HSE culture.
* Ensure emergency preparedness and first-aid coverage across all shifts.
* Assign HSE responsibilities to supervisors and monitor performance.
* Assist other projects as directed by the Head of HSE.
Core Competencies & Experience
* Minimum 5 years' experience in an HSE managerial role, ideally within power generation or industrial environments.
* Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including ATEX zone control.
* Expertise in high-risk activity identification and mitigation.
* Familiarity with Permit to Work systems and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Proven ability to lead teams and influence safety culture.
* Experience in facilities safety management and operations of critical systems.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum
* Lead Auditor, IOSH regional branch participation, First Aid certification and behavioural coaching, will be considered as an asset.
* Clear evidence of maintain CPD records
* Chartered status of a national HSE Institute – CMIOSH
* Excellent HRA (High Risk Activity) Identification skills and hazard spotting.
* In depth knowledge of Incident /Accident prevention methodologies
* Mental Health first aider
* Valid industry recognised safety card
* Valid Manual Handling Certificate
* Strong Mechanical /Electrical & operations of critical systems experience.
* Facilities Safety Management experience.
