Midlands Mink Eradication Programme Role: Project Coordinator Job Description and Duties Reports to: Programme Management consisting of: NARGC Chairman and Board of Directors Breeding Wader EIP Senior Project Manager Responsible for: Organising and coordinating the agreed programme actions, including but not limited to: Eradication of Mink from a defined area Coordination of volunteer network Training Equipment Data collection Detailed professional reporting on the project as required by the NARGC, Breeding Wader EIP, and statutory authorities Location: NARGC Office, Mountmellick, Co Laois (may relocate to another midlands office) Regular work at Breeding Waders EIP offices, Moate, Co Westmeath Remote working permitted as agreed with NARGC Salary: €45,000 p/a Programme Background This pilot programme is Irelands first attempt to eradicate American Mink (Neovision vision) from a large, pre-determined area. Previous efforts in Ireland only controlled populations temporarily, leading to rapid repopulation once control ceased. The programme is a collaboration between the Breeding Waders EIP and the National Association of Regional Game Councils, supported by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. It will utilise Citizen Science to deliver a structured and coordinated trapping network, aimed at eradication over 3.5 years. Volunteers will be trained and coordinated to deliver ethical, consistent, and effective trapping in compliance with Animal Welfare legislation and the Wildlife Act. Job Description and Qualifications Contract: 3.5 years, from commencement to 18.03.2029 (extension possible by mutual agreement). Role Summary: Work closely with Breeding Waders EIP management and the NARGC Chairman Coordinate day-to-day programme operations Establish and manage delivery mechanisms to achieve objectives Engage and collaborate with NARGC staff, volunteers, and Breeding Wader EIP staff Train and organise volunteers from target areas Ensure high-quality delivery, data recording, and reporting Transport & Driving Licence: Own transport, full driving licence, business-use vehicle insurance required The Job Employed by the NARGC, operating under direction of the NARGC Chairperson and Board Works with the Senior Project Manager and the Breeding Waders EIP Nest Protection Manager Full-time post with standard entitlements Minimum Qualifications and Experience Experience and understanding of the natural environment and predation impacts on ground-nesting birds Strong knowledge of predator control and invasive species eradication Proficiency with modern office management IT systems, GIS (ESRI, Argis, R, Python or similar), and data systems Ability to produce comprehensive professional reports Proven organisational and multitasking ability, independently or in a team Knowledge of health & safety legislation and its application Professional appearance and attitude Discretion and confidentiality Strong interpersonal skills and communication ability (written and verbal, technical and non-technical) Public speaking and group presentation ability Desirable Qualifications and Experience Leadership experience with agencies or volunteers Game keeper or similar professional qualifications/experience Degree in Ecology or related discipline Firearms licence and practical predator control experience Prior work on predator control projects Familiarity with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) principles Academic research experience in relevant areas Experience managing and analysing large datasets Experience coordinating or understanding regional-scale fieldwork Main Duties Report to NARGC Chairman, Board, and Breeding Waders EIP Manager Organise and deliver training and promotional events Maintain accurate records of training, including Health & Safety Pursue project objectives and issue reports as required Collaborate with Breeding Waders EIP project staff Hours of Work / Location Full-time, 39 hours per week Standard benefits under 3.5-year contract Normal office hours, with some flexibility required Location: NARGC Office (with work in Moate office as needed) Remote working permitted by agreement Probation Initial probation: 6 months Extension possible at Board discretion Appointment ceases if performance is unsatisfactory during probation Application Process Please click Apply with: CV (max 2 pages) Cover letter (max 2 pages) Focus on relevant experience and what you will bring to the role and NARGC.
