The post will support the Construction-related disciplines including Architecture, Construction and Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering where taught programmes are offered at undergraduate Ordinary and Honours Degree levels and also at postgraduate level.
The associated Sustainable Infrastructure Research & Innovation Group provides wide-ranging, vibrant and expanding Master by Research and PhD Programmes, supported by National and International Research Funding Programmes.
Facilities include a range of Engineering Laboratories which are supported by the Technical Team.
These laboratories support a wide range of activities and are central to the delivery of Programmes.
We are seeking a suitably qualified and ambitious candidate to work with the full team to provide IT support for teaching, learning and research activities.
Location, level and relationship within management structure: This position is based in the MTU Cork Campus (Bishopstown) but may involve some travel between MTU Campuses.
The successful candidate will in the first instance report to the Faculty of Engineering Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joe Harrington.
This line management arrangement may be amended as MTUs organisational structure evolves over time.
Duties and responsibilities of the position: The following indicate some of the principal duties and responsibilities that may be assigned: Organising, preparing and setting up for classes, project and research work in IT laboratories and other areas.
To undertake set up and commissioning of new IT and technology equipment.
Installing and testing of appropriate software as appropriate and making the software available to appropriate users.
To carry out routine maintenance of IT and technology equipment.
Provide technical assistance to lecturers and students to ensure the safe and smooth running of IT laboratory classes and other events as appropriate.
To ensure that IT laboratories, materials and equipment are kept clean, tidy and in good order.
To provide support for delivery and receipt of goods.
To undertake such other duties as the President, Presidents nominee, Head of Department, Senior Technical Officer or other authorised officer may assign from time to time.
Duties specific to this role include the following: Provide IT support to staff and students Ensure all IT laboratories are setup and maintained as required Work as part of a team environment to support staff and students Assist other team members to enhance the IT services provided for staff and students Assist students & staff, as necessary, in the setup of IT equipment for assessments Supporting staff and students with project work and research activities Writing and updating technical instruction manuals for staff and students Install, configure and troubleshoot hardware and software for student labs and staff offices Participate in the evaluation of new IT equipment/software Assist in consulting with suppliers of equipment and consumable materials, and assist in obtaining technical specifications, quotations and ordering new equipment and consumable materials Taking delivery of equipment and consumable materials and commission new IT equipment Arranging for safe disposal of waste materials Stock control of equipment and consumable materials Experience of supporting Windows Operating System Win 10, Server **** Experience and understanding of Microsoft Active Directory operations Knowledge of anti-virus, anti-malware and encryption software To contribute to the development, implementation and updating of health and safety policies and procedures as they pertain primarily to the IT facilities and to include risk assessment, standard operating procedures, method statements and other relevant policies and procedures as appropriate.
Key Skills and Experience requirements for the position: Strong people skills and an interest in supporting staff and student-led developments.
Knowledge and interest in appropriate emerging IT and technologies.
Practical experience in the installation, testing, maintenance and use of IT and technology equipment.
Strong level of technical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
The potential candidate should be self-motivated with an aptitude for creative problem-solving, along with the flexibility to adapt to new tools and techniques.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and the ability to multi-task are essential.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to learn and grow within this role and have excellent written, communication and research skills.
Willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
The successful candidate will be able to work individually and as part of a team.
The candidate must demonstrate due attention to detail.
The successful candidate will have minimum academic qualifications and experience as follows: Essential:
1) A relevant Level 8 degree from a recognised degree awarding authority, majoring in degree level studies related to Computing, Information Technology, Electronic Engineering or in a related cognate discipline.
AND
2) Not less than 3 years relevant experience subsequent to obtaining the above qualification.
Desirable: Practical experience of working in an IT/Technology focused environment.
Further studies and professional qualifications obtained post-qualification will be favourably considered.
Experience with the following: - Windows operating systems and applications - Networking, including wired and wireless technologies - Virtual machine tools e.g., VMWare workstation Terms of the Appointment: Salary Scale: €45,****** - €76,****** pa including one long service increment.
LSI are payable after 3 years service on the maximum of the scale.
Permanent, whole-time 36.5 hours per week Annual leave: 29 days per annum.
