Job title: Perfusionist. Department: Main Theatre. Job type: Permanent. Hours: 39 per week (Full‑time).
Job Purpose
The Perfusionist, as a member of the surgical team, will operate heart‑lung equipment during surgery under the direction of the surgeon; administer blood products and medication; control temperature and blood flow; and monitor the patient’s circulatory process throughout the procedure.
Key Qualifications
Accredited Perfusionist registered with the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain & Ireland.
1 year’s experience in an acute setting desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure that perfusion services are provided within the hospital at all times.
Run the perfusion service smoothly, efficiently and cost‑effectively.
Maximise flexibility, teamwork and innovative working practices.
Use perfusion resources efficiently.
Place the needs of the patient at the centre of care delivery.
Implement systems that ensure safe and suitable care provision.
Identify clinical risks across the service and take appropriate action.
Work in partnership with support staff to meet care, treatment and service needs with a standard approach to excellent service delivery.
Provide and demonstrate clinical leadership, support mechanisms for sharing good practice and encourage innovation in perfusion development.
Act as a clinical expert within the hospital, disseminating specialist skills and knowledge to all disciplines.
Maintain communication with the multidisciplinary team and all hospital departments.
Undertake local audit and research, disseminate findings and implement recommendations.
Support research and use information to ensure clinical practice is research‑based; obtain ethical approval where necessary.
Valid work permission for the Republic of Ireland or eligibility for a work permit.
