Service Overview
Corlann West Region provides a community‑based, person‑centred service focusing on the needs and abilities of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Our vision is to support people with intellectual disabilities to achieve a full and valued life in their community, creating opportunities for ordinary life experiences and close connections with family and friends. BEO Adult Services offers a range of community‑based services including day, residential, respite, community outreach, family support and multidisciplinary support.
Location
Beo Adult Services, Knocknacarra Co. Galway. Staff allocation may be within residential/respite/day settings or in community services. The appointee will initially commence working in one particular area and may change due to future service needs.
Role and Responsibilities
The Support Worker supports the person in all aspects of daily living, focusing on the individual’s ability and promoting independence and the development of skills. The worker assists people with personal outcomes and participation in ordinary everyday life through inclusive and creative thinking.
Provide all personal care required during the day, including meals, household tasks, personal and intimate care.
Support people in achieving personal outcomes and participating in community life.
Adapt support to the needs of particular individuals and be flexible to change.
Assist with personal and intimate care as required.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Good general education; a recognised qualification in intellectual disability or an FETAC Level 5 course is an advantage.
QQI Level 5 or higher desirable.
Full clean manual driving licence, which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads.
Experience of working with people with intellectual disability, autism or complex needs desirable; induction and training will be provided.
Flexibility, team‑working skills, patience and a sense of humour.
Fluency in verbal and written English and proficiency in IT skills.
Working Hours and Schedule
78 hours per fortnight, based on a 14‑day duty roster.
May involve weekend work, some split duty hours, public holidays, evening/night duty and sleep‑ins to meet service needs.
Annual Leave
22 days per annum (pro‑ratio for part‑time), i.e. 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked.
Remuneration
Department of Health salary scales as at 01/02/2026: €34,536 up to €47,152 per annum (pro‑ratio for part‑time).
Long Service Increment €47,954 per annum (pro‑ratio for part‑time) after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.
Additional payments for weekends, public holidays, sleep‑ins and night duty when worked.
Salary quoted is based on a 39‑hour working week and includes incremental credit subject to verification of previous public sector service.
Tenure and Probation
These posts are permanent full‑time and temporary full‑time, all posts are pensionable. A panel may be formed from which subsequent permanent, temporary or fixed‑term Support Worker appointments within Beo Adult Services may be offered over the next 6 to 12 months. A probationary period of nine months applies; employment may be terminated during probation if the appointee is unsuitable.
