Health & Safety Manager - Contract

Role Profile
As a Health and Safety Manager based in Athlone, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance across our construction and fit-out projects. This includes responsibility for day-to-day management of safety-related project elements and responsibility for managing multiple projects at different stages, simultaneously from a health and safety perspective.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
* Leading H&S strategies from project inception, ensuring all safety protocols are integrated into the project plan on time and in line with regulatory requirements.
* Organising the production of Construction Phase Plans and site-specific safety documentation for the supply chain.
* Develop H&S specifications, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) for diverse project scopes.
* Carry out regular site inspections and audits, producing detailed reports and recommendations for improving safety performance on-site.
* Assist & advise the Pre-Construction and Design teams with key safety issues, CDM (Construction Design and Management) compliance, identification of risk, and budgeting for safety requirements.
* Input into, and Evaluation of Sub-Contractor safety records and their proposed health and safety documentation during the tender stage.
* Assisting Sales in pitching projects by providing high-level H&S statistics and safety approach information for client presentations.
* Chair H&S site meetings, offer technical safety advice, and monitor sub-contractor compliance with site rules.
* Review and Approval of Sub-Contractor safety submissions, including high-risk activity permits and training records.
* Attend, and chair where appropriate, safety forums with the client, the designers, specialist contractors, and other team members.
* Assisting the Project Management team with accident investigations, root cause analysis, and periodic safety sign-offs.
* Prepare safety training programmes and manage the delivery of site inductions and toolbox talks where required.
* Contribute to the regular project reports and attend project meetings, including formal Safety Quality Audits on ongoing and completed projects.
* Operational responsibility for delivery of safety management systems in terms of legal compliance and quality assurance.
Skills & Experiences:
* In-depth knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations, fire safety, and general construction health and safety legislation.
* Knowledge and understanding of the local London market and specialist H&S subcontractors/consultants.
* Recognised qualifications in Health and Safety, such as a NEBOSH Diploma or GradIOSH status.
* Knowledgeable of ISO standards (45001, 14001, 9001) and industry-specific health & safety standards/systems.
* Ideally, experienced in the use of Microsoft Project/Vista and Construction Project Management software for tracking compliance.
* Ability to collate safety data from the team to prepare and present the monthly project health and safety report.
* A relationship-focused approach to clients, site teams, and sub-contractors to foster a positive safety culture.
