Responsibilities
* Contribute to expanding Stats Central’s support for bioinformatics by advising on or leading study design, analysis and communication of results; developing and maintaining analysis pipelines; developing and running regular professional development workshops and seminars; and building and maintaining strong relationships to facilitate interdisciplinary research.
* Build the capacity of UNSW researchers and research students to process and analyse complex genomic and proteomic datasets.
* Mentor staff and students, develop new bioinformatic methodologies, and leverage generative AI to analyse complex datasets.
* Collaborate with researchers from diverse backgrounds and communicate complex bioinformatic concepts to non-specialists.
* Report to the Senior Statistical Consultant, Stats Central; no direct reports.
Qualifications
Level A — You have a PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field, with proven expertise in applying bioinformatic pipelines for single-cell sequencing, spatial proteomics/transcriptomics, and/or integrative multi-omics data analysis. Proficiency in R or Python, bash, and Linux HPC environments; ability to meet project requirements with minimal supervision. Strong teamwork, independent decision-making, and collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds; ability to communicate complex concepts to non-specialists. Mentoring, developing new bioinformatic methodologies, and willingness to undertake relevant training. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, values, policies, and guidelines; health and safety responsibilities.
Level B — In addition to Level A criteria, proven experience in bioinformatics including reviewing grants and journal articles; leading planning and analysis of genomics or proteomics studies. Demonstrated independent scientific and bioinformatic leadership, ability to critically evaluate proposals, and ability to teach bioinformatic techniques and develop short course materials. Strong interdisciplinary publication record, and well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
