Role Purpose
The Vascular Department in Blackrock Clinic offers a wide range of non-invasive vascular diagnostic investigations.
The successful candidate will be an integral member of the multi-disciplinary vascular team, working closely with 3 Consultant Vascular surgeons.
The post holder will be expected to provide a full range of vascular examinations, both as part of a team and independently.
Qualifications / Experience
Possess the BSc in Clinical Measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology or equivalent.
Or possess Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological measurement from Dublin Institute of Technology or its equivalent.
Membership of the College and Society for Clinical Vascular Science or equivalent society.
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years satisfactory relevant post qualification experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
At all times treat the patient with dignity and respect, while exercising discretion and maintaining their confidentiality.
Perform and interpret the following: Carotid Ultrasound, Venous, Lower Limb Arterial, Upper limb Venous, Upper limb Arterial, Graft Scanning, pseudo aneurysm scrolling, Segmental Pressures and Ankle/Brachial Index.
Laser vein guidance an advantage.
Be responsible for accurate storing of reports generated from the above tests.
Keep accurate documentation of these procedures.
Ensure that all records are properly and accurately maintained.
Be professionally responsible for all aspects of the postholder's own work.
Participate in the teaching, training and supervision of new or junior staff and students.
Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and guidelines.
Maintain the department environment to promote good infection control and health and safety at work.
Provide comfort, reassurance and support to patients in times of high anxiety or distress.
Function effectively in an emergency situation.
Adapt to changing workloads.
Participate in discussion about patient care and ward/departmental development including handover and team meetings.
Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of accurate documentation and contribute towards recording daily reports of patient activity and progress.
Know and practice within legal requirements including those set down by the Society of Vascular Technicians of Great Britain and Ireland.
Report any malfunction or defects in equipment relevant to the role.
Support the Head of Department in the implementation of initiatives aimed at improving and developing the service of the Vascular Department.
Listen to and be able to accept constructive feedback.
Undertake when necessary administrative and clerical duties to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
Comply with policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic.

Function within the limits of the College and Society for Clinical Vascular Science and hospital policies, procedures and standards.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patients and activities of Blackrock Clinic.
Continue to develop personal knowledge and skills.
Seek and take education opportunities in addition to those provided by the hospital.
Provide direct supervision to other members of the team when appropriate.
Participate in developing and providing quality care within Blackrock Clinic.
Assist with the orientation, teaching and supervision of new and junior personnel.
Present a professional appearance and conform to the dress, hygiene and infection control policies of the Clinic.
Be always punctual when on duty.
Accept responsibility for "Acting Up" in specific instances, as assigned.
