Bar Manager role at Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate, Palmers Bar and Kitchen. The 5* Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate (part of the MHL Hotel Collection) is recruiting for a Bar Manager to join the award-winning team. Located on the banks of Lough Corrib on an 138-acre estate, the hotel features 74 bedrooms (including 6 suites), 11 Luxury Self-Catering Lodges, Corrib Room (meetings, events, weddings up to 170 guests), River Room Restaurant, Palmers Bar and Kitchen, 2AA Rosette Pullman Restaurant (set aboard original Orient Express dining carriages), Glo Spa & Wellness, a 9-hole Christy O’Connor Jr designed Championship Golf course and a 21-bay driving range.
The role delivers high-quality service in the Palmer Bar and Restaurant, with responsibility for guest satisfaction and achieving operational and financial targets.
Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day running of a busy bar and restaurant.
* Ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are implemented and monitored in line with statutory requirements.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and all other statutory and legal requirements.
* Update departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) documents.
* Report accidents of guests or staff and ensure Accident Report Forms are completed; ensure Risk Assessments and cleaning schedules are recorded.
* Promote sales awareness within the department and maximize sales opportunities to meet or exceed budget targets.
* Actively contribute to sales in the bar, including in-house opportunities/average spend targeting.
* Identify and implement new concepts/service standards to maintain a competitive edge.
* Engage the team with upselling and revenue goals aligned with departmental targets.
* Cost rosters in line with forecast while maintaining service levels.
* Ensure new employees understand cash handling procedures with signed acknowledgments on files.
* Demonstrate assertiveness to uphold organisational standards and address discipline as necessary.
* Work with the Food & Beverage Management Team to deliver systematic skills training and ensure SOPs are understood and followed.
* Attend handover briefings at the start of shifts to note any special requirements.
* Participate in recruitment and selection of new team members for skills and culture fit.
* Monitor employee satisfaction and engagement to reduce turnover.
* Foster an environment that promotes morale and strong commitment among the team.
* Maintain regular, effective communication within the team and with management; hold daily briefings as required.
* Ensure Bar staff comply with uniform standards and present professionally.
* Maintain appropriate lighting and music levels in the bar.
