Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our Dublin-based commercial team within a leading M&E contracting organisation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the tendering and pre-construction phases of large-scale pharmaceutical, data centre, and industrial projects across Ireland and Europe.
This is a senior-level position requiring strong technical expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to lead mechanical estimating activities from concept through to final submission.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Estimator
Lead the preparation of detailed mechanical estimates for high-value projects, typically €20m–€150m+ M&E value
Analyse tender documentation, drawings, specifications, schedules, and employer’s requirements
Develop accurate cost plans, budgets, and benchmark estimates at various project stages
Take ownership of full mechanical packages including HVAC, pipework, LTHW/CHW, steam, process services etc.
Manage take-offs, pricing, and compilation of BOQs and tender returns
Liaise closely with design managers, project managers, planners, and BIM teams during tender stage
Engage with supply chain partners and specialist subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing
Identify value engineering opportunities, risk items, and cost-saving initiatives
Prepare clarifications, exclusions, and commercial assumptions for tender submissions
Present estimates and tender strategies to senior management
Support post-tender negotiations and handover to project delivery teams
Mentor and support junior estimators within the department
Necessary Requirements of the Senior Mechanical Estimator
Degree or Trade Background in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Mechanical trades background
8+ years’ experience in mechanical estimating within an M&E contracting environment
Proven track record delivering successful tenders for pharma, data centre, or industrial orientated projects in-excess of €20M
Experience working with Tier 1 or leading M&E contractors preferred
Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g. CostX, Trimble, Buildsoft, or similar)
Strong Excel and MS Office skills
Experience working with BIM models (Revit/Navisworks) desirable
Strong commercial and financial awareness
Excellent understanding of mechanical building services systems
Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously under tight deadlines
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong leadership and communication skills
Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and specifications
Confident in engaging with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
