Overview Of Role
To provide high‑quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services to orthopaedic patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role includes clinical expertise, service development and leadership responsibilities for the outpatient orthopaedic and general musculoskeletal physiotherapy services, as well as providing care for orthopaedic in‑patients. This is a 24‑month fixed term contract, in accordance with ISCP and WCPT core standards, guidelines and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Provide physiotherapy services to orthopaedic in‑patients and out‑patients.
Lead, organise and coordinate physiotherapy provision for orthopaedic and musculoskeletal out‑patients.
Treat surgical and medical cases as part of the remit or separately as required.
Develop evidence‑based protocols for post‑operative orthopaedic surgeries.
Lead and develop the physiotherapy out‑patient service, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
Mentor and supervise junior staff in the out‑patient setting.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and discharge planning.
Provide patient education and staff training on musculoskeletal/orthopaedic topics.
Engage in clinical audits and research to enhance service quality.
Maintain CORU registration and adhere to hospital policies and clinical governance standards.
Competencies
Advanced assessment and treatment of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal issues.
Leadership in orthopaedic out‑patient service development and staff mentoring.
Delivery of physiotherapy care for inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic cases (e.g., post‑op hip/knee replacements).
Development of evidence‑based protocols for orthopaedic rehabilitation.
Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings for orthopaedic patients.
Provision of patient education on orthopaedic and post‑surgical recovery.
Engagement in clinical audits and research for orthopaedics.
Adherence to CORU standards and hospital governance requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
BSc Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
Minimum four years clinical experience working with a broad spectrum of patients from MSK, orthopaedic, neurology and respiratory.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including working with other disciplines.
Basic PC/IT skills.
Knowledge of evidence‑based practice in the management of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.
Demonstrated expertise in audit and clinical effectiveness.
Willingness to take on additional responsibility as required.
Excellent time‑management and problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Post‑registration MSc.
Membership of ISCP.
Member of a relevant ISCP special interest group.
Salary
€62,823.42 – €74,757.99 per annum based on a 35‑hour work week.
