A leading Irish public sector organisation is seeking an experienced ICT Cybersecurity Manager to take ownership of its cybersecurity function. This is a hands-on senior leadership role combining governance, risk, compliance, and operational security oversight.
You will act as the internal cybersecurity lead managing cyber risk, overseeing third-party providers, driving GRC maturity, and ensuring a proportionate, effective, and auditable security posture.

Duration: 6 months
Rate: Competitive day rate (DOE)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead cybersecurity governance and own the organisation's cyber risk strategy
Maintain and evolve the IT risk register, policies, standards, and procedures
Manage third-party/vendor security risk including UpGuard or equivalent platforms
Act as primary liaison with MSSP/SOC providers reviewing incidents, alerts, and vulnerability outputs
Own and operate the Incident Response Plan; lead tabletop exercises
Support audit and compliance activities (GDPR, NIS2, internal/external audit)
Provide executive-level reporting on risk, incidents, and security posture
Input into architecture decisions, new projects, and security gap remediation
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
7+ years of professional experience in Cybersecurity Management & Strategy
Recognised certification: CISSP, CISM or equivalent
Experience maturing GRC environments
Experience managing third-party/vendor risk
Experience overseeing MSSP or SOC providers
Fluency in English
Microsoft security stack: Defender XDR, Microsoft Purview, Entra ID, Conditional Access, Zero Trust architecture
Third-party risk tooling: UpGuard or equivalent
NIS2 / GDPR compliance experience in an Irish or EU public sector context
Experience operating as vCISO or sole security lead in a lean IT environment
