About the Role:
Vertus Group is seeking an M&A Business Development Manager to join our deal sourcing team in Ireland. Reporting to the Director, M&A Business Development and working closely with senior leadership in Ireland, this individual will play a key role in expanding our M&A footprint across the EU.
In this role, you will take ownership of sourcing, qualifying, building, and nurturing a pipeline of acquisition opportunities. You will work closely with senior business leaders, build relationships with founders and executives, and develop strategies to identify attractive opportunities that align with our portfolio.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of exceeding targets in a fast-paced enterprise SaaS sales, deal origination, or corporate development environment. They are entrepreneurial, resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to balance hands-on sourcing with strategic relationship management.
Prior experience in M&A, private equity, or venture capital is strongly preferred.
What You'll Be Doing:
* Build a pipeline of acquisition opportunities through engaging with acquisition targets' shareholders, executives, and financial advisors.
* Establishing and building relationships with decision-makers of acquisition targets
* Nurture business relationships over time and following up in a systematic manner to enhance our participation in M&A processes.
* Proactively following up with business owners who are seeking to sell their business
* Travel to industry tradeshows and meet our prospects as required.
* Developing industry knowledge and attending in-person meetings with business owners as required
* Ultimately sourcing deals: Signing Non-Disclosure Agreements ("NDAs") with these qualified leads to obtain financial and operational information
Skills You're Bringing:
* Strong oral communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable engaging with C-suite executives and business owners.
* Advanced cold-calling and prospecting skills; able to think and respond off-script.
* Demonstrated ability to hit or exceed origination and sourcing targets.
* High level of intellectual curiosity and judgment; able to synthesize market and business information quickly.
* Financial acumen with the ability to understand financial statements.
* Highly self-directed with exceptional work ethic, persistence, and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in Excel is required; Salesforce or other CRM experience is an asset.
* Ability to perform under pressure while meeting deadlines and objectives.
Outcomes Will Include:
* Building a robust, qualified pipeline of acquisition targets that align with Vertus' investment mandate
* Follow up to ensure that information requests get fulfilled for all qualified prospects
* Present high quality, qualified acquisition candidates to the internal M&A Committee at weekly meetings
* Conduct industry research to identify attractive markets
* Plan/attend trade shows as required, travel required
Required Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in business/ finance or related fields (preferred) from a reputable institution.
* Minimum of 4+ years in business development, deal origination, corporate development, or enterprise software sales.
* Experience in M&A, PE, or VC is a strong asset.
* Fluent in English; additional fluency in other languages such as Spanish, French, German, or Italian is a plus.
Location:
Ireland. Hybrid work environment. We will require the resource to meet our team located in Ireland at least once a week or as required.
